CROOKED HOWLER MORAL STORY

There was a thief who was notoriously popular for his cunning tricks. He was very problematic to the entire community. in spite of all their efforts, even the police could not catch him. Once, the thief set his eyes on a decent traveller.

He was very much attracted to the new coat of the traveller. The coat looked very costly. He wanted to steal the coat. So, he cooked a plan. The thief approached the traveller and introduced himself as a business person. He started a conversation and soon found that the traveller too was a business person. Both the persons fell into a smooth conversation. Suddenly, the thief took off his waistcoat and said, "It is too hot in this room, isn't it?" The traveller also agreed and took off his coat. "This is a nice coat. Can I have a feel of it?" the thief asked. "Go on, try it!" said the traveller.

The thief took the coat and suddenly yawned. There was a howling sound when the thief yawned. The amused traveller asked, "Why are you howling when you yawn?" The thief said, "Sorry, I should have told you. But, I thought you would be frightened. You see, if I yawn thrice at a stretch, I turn into a wolf and kill anyone in front of me." The traveller looked bewildered. The thief yawned again for the second time. The howling sound came again. The traveller looked still bewildered. The thief was about to yawn the third time. He stood up and was ready to run away with the coat. He thought that the traveller would also run away. Instead, the traveller took a pair of handcuffs and locked the thief's hands. The traveller revealed, "I am a police officer in disguise. I was deputed to arrest you red-handed. You are under arrest for stealing from many innocent people." The thief was shocked but surrendered.

It would be a full moon day. I should be on penitence and eat only after I can find some saint and offer them food." The next day, the hare was awaiting some saint to pass that way. But, to the hare's despair, no one came that way. In distress, the hare said to himself, "I shall offer myself as food if some saint comes.                 The Forest Deity was watching the entire episode. He appeared in the form of a Brahmin in front of the hare. The hare was happy that his ...
