THE STRENGTH OF UNITY - FOUR SONS

There was an old farmer. He was a hard worker. He had saved riches. He was a very affectionate father too. He had four sons. But, they were all divided in their thoughts, Moreover, they were also very lazy and lethargic. As years went by, the farmer was getting older and older. He was filled with worry and sadness about the pitiable state of his sons. He was also worried about the future of his hard-earned wealth.

This worry and sadness made the farmer very sick and bedridden. He understood that he was counting his days. He wanted to help his sons live a happy and fruitful life at least after he passed away. He called all his sons and said, "My dear boys, I don't know how long I would live. Why don't you leave your ill habits and start understanding one another? Life is very precious.

You should not quarrel among yourselves. You should live together. Realize the strength of unity." The sons didn't understand what their father was telling them. "What are you saying, father? How can we be united when our characters are different?" they asked in unison.

The old and wise farmer wanted to demonstrate the strength of unity to his sons. He asked them, "Fetch a bundle of firewood. I shall make you understand my point." The sons followed their father's instructions. They brought a bundle of firewood and said, "Father, we have brought the bundle. What should we do now?" they asked. The farmer took a single stick and gave it to each of his sons. "Break the stick," he ordered. The sons broke the stick in no time. "Was it easy to break the stick?' asked the farmer. "It was child's play father," replied the sons.

The farmer gave three sticks to each of them and asked them to break. "Was it easy, my sons?" he asked. "It was somewhat difficult," the sons complained.

"Now, take the entire bundle and break it," said the farmer. However they tried, the sons could not break the bundle. "See, the more the number of sticks, the harder it becomes to break them. So is life, my boys. If you are united it would be difficult for others to break you. Once you are united you can live with prosperity." advised the farmer.

The sons understood the meaning of unity and started to live together with happiness.

Bunny was a lively rabbit. He was always in the company of some animal or the other. He was friendly with all of them.               Once, Bunny heard a pack of hunting dogs in the forest. He was afraid that they would catch him. He ran to a deer he thought was his close friend and said, "Dear brother, I hear a pack of hunting dogs in the forest nearby. Please save me. You have such sharp antlers. You can thrash them. Please help me, friend !" The coolly replied, "I am sorry, Bunny.        I am too busy to help you out. Go and find someone else for your help." Bunny ran to many of his friends - the bear, the monkey, the zebra, and even the panther. They all gave the same reply. Finally, the tired Bunny met a mouse and told his pathetic state. THE SNAKE AND THE GREEN FROG - MORAL STORY

It had just rained and the forest was nourishing with water everywhere. There was no shortage of food for every animal.  A snake was swimming in a pond. It had an eye on the plentiful fish in the pond. As it was about to catch a fish, the other fish saw it and pecked at it, biting and annoying it. The snake could not catch the fish. The disappointed snake swam to the shore and was about to leave the place. Just then it saw a frog croaking nearby. So it went to the frog and asked, "What is the justice in the act of the fish.        I was about to catch a big fish, but the other fish chased me off." The frog thought for a while and replied, "Of course, it is just. When the fish comes to you, you can eat it. But, when you go to the fish the fish have right to chase you off." Saying this, the frog leapt away saying to itself, "Oh God! I've been lucky today to have escaped." Moral: EVEN THE MIGHTY ERRS  !!! **** **** ****

All birds and animals were busy collecting food during breaks in the showering rain.           A pigeon was making some repair work in her nest. She was busy collecting available dry sticks. She was flying here and there. Suddenly, she saw a honey bee being drifted in the river below. The honey bee was trying hard to keep its wings dry. The pigeon was very much sorry for the bee. In an effort to save the honey bee, the pigeon plucked a dry leaf and threw it at the bee.         The honey bee was strong enough to lift itself and lay on the dry leaf for some time. Once she was totally dry, the honey bee flew happily saying, "Dear friend, I shall not forget this timely help." Days passed. Autumn came. Hunters poached the forest in search of animals to hunt. They killed any animal they set eyes on.     ...
